Exchange Crypto Without KYC: How It Works and How to Do It Safely
- 1 min read
Many instant exchangers let you swap crypto without uploading a passport. Here's what “no KYC” really means, when a check can still happen and how to stay safe.
What “no KYC” means
KYC (Know Your Customer) is identity verification. Instant exchangers don't open accounts: they take a deposit and send a payout, so many of them never ask for documents. Instead they run automatic AML checks on the incoming transaction.
Three kinds of policy
- No KYC
- The exchanger never asks for ID.
- KYC may apply
- A check is possible if the transaction is flagged by AML screening.
- KYC required
- Identity is verified before every payout.
GemX Swap labels every offer with one of these, so you can filter the comparison by “No KYC” before you swap.
When a check can still happen
- Funds linked to sanctioned addresses, mixers or hacks.
- Unusually large amounts for the pair.
- Requests from law enforcement about a specific transaction.
How to do it safely
- 1Pick an exchanger with a high rating and many reviews.
- 2Check the KYC label and limits for your amount.
- 3Double-check the payout address and network.
- 4Save the order ID and status page.
- 5Try a smaller amount first with a new exchanger.
